Rally Obedience
Plans are underway to offer APDT Rally O competitions beginning this fall or winter.

APDT Rally Obedience Class

Prepare for the competition ring or enhancing your dogs general obedience and focus skills.

Thursdays - Class session begins August14, 5:00-6:00 pm

6 week session, $120.00 *10% discount for Wag It members

This class will help you understand the Rally O signs and the exercises needed for competing in Level 1 APDT Rally. Formal heeling, turns, stays, recalls, pivots, stands and focus exercises will be included. Many of the skills needed for AKC Rally are the same so this class may also be used as preparation for AKC Rally O. The signs and exercises differ but skill set very similar.

What is APDT RALLY OBEDIENCE Dog and Handler teams navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform such as Sit-Down-Sit, Stand, Stay, Figure 8, Send Over A Jump, Recall Over Jump. Teams navigate the course in a brisk , continuous performance without direction from the judge. Handlers are encouraged to talk to their dogs during the performance. The standards like heal position are a bit more relaxed than traditional obedience ring. The novice level is performed all on a loose leash. All dogs, purebred, mixed breeds as well as dogs with disabilities are encouraged to participate. Trials typically include Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 courses. A team earns a Rally title after successfully completing three course runs with qualifying scores in any level. Teams may also earn Championship titles, National Ranking Awards and a special Award of Excellence.

Wag It is planning its first APDT Rally Obedience competition for this fall or Winter.

AKC RALLY OBEDIENCE
APDT Rally Obedience is a bit different from AKC Rally. AKC Rally is only open to pure bred AKC registered dogs. APDT allows food rewards while AKC does not. APDT does not allow second commands but AKC does. The exercises are also a bit different. There is a lot of similarity too and cross over training and competing is a reasonable plan.
